AN INTERVIEW WITH THE RAINMAKER BAND

Brittain is known for it's great acts in the Metal Scene from this Island there comes a lot of original Art in chords! The English metalworld has been fortunated with a young talented band with experienced musicians RAINMAKER! They have recently recorded a promo-tape with three very impressive songs. We're talking here about a band which has the potency to become one of the biggest names from Great-Britain! This interview is done at Sunday 03-10-1999 via Email with Zac from the Rainmaker band done b Gwydion Sagelinge!

GS : When was Rainmaker formed and with which intention?
Zac : Rainmaker was formed in late '97.After leaving Lionsheart , I had ideas to make a solo project , so I drafted in Rishi (who spent a short spell in Cradle of Filth in 1994 ) but soon it became a full blown band , so we've just continued that way. Obviously our aim is to release a CD , we've 11 songs finished already , and we have been offered two deals with smaller labels. But it isn't that long since myself and Benjamin have become free of our deal with Music For Nations , so we're using this time to play warm up shows in England and genarally get feedback from everyone , before we rush into another deal. Our intention is to be a great British band , the best since Maiden (Godly Maiden-GS ),most english bands are trying to sound american , and good luck to them. We're not scared of our roots!

GS : That's a clear answer allright! Can you perhaps introduce Rainmaker to the readers?
Zac : The band are Rishi Mehta (ex C.O.F. 94) and Ryk Swillo on guitars , Mark Cooper (ex-Incarcerated ) on drums , Zac ( ex-Lionsheart) on bass/vocals and Benjamin Ryan (ex C.O.F. and The Blood Divine ) on keyboards. Ben is mainly a "part time" member these days , due to the distance he lives from the band and the direction where we're heading in. We remain best friends still and he will definitely be playing on the album! And is constantly touring with us.

GS : Have you guys signed up any deal yet?
Zac : I've mentioned a bit about this in question 1. (We want the details-GS) We're looking to work with a label that believes in the band , preferably in Europe , because we feel European labels have more commitment to their bands and understand the scene better. We have also received interest from the States we'll keep you informed on developments.

GS : The titles of your songs give me the impression that they deal about lost loves and ruined relationships? Are they
Zac : Yes , some of the lyrics are indeed. Songs like "Forgive Me" , "Circles at Dawn" , "The Pain It Grows" and "Everything is Sorrow" are influenced by the loss of loved ones. Everything I sing is fact , each song represent a different emotion. It's very honest music , sometimes I think I reveal too much.

GS : Why did Benjamin left C.O.F.? Had it to do that he didn't fit well in that band?
Zac : Firstly Benjamin's decision to leave C.O.F. was nothing to do with not fitting in! Listen to "Principle" the keys make that album!(I rather listen to Darkthrone-GS) Anyway it's a long story. Here's the shot version. At the time of the split I was managing Cradle of Filth and I produced the original "Dusk and her embrace" album , I was giving my services for free (the true spirit-GS) as I believed in the band. But certain members were lured away by promises of big money deals and a U.S. Tour so that was it for me. Benjamin very soon was unhappy as their manager had bought a porsche and the band had seen nothing. Ben , Paul Ryan and Paul Allender , feeling cheated ,left to form The Blood Divine.

GS : That's a thing I can understand , such an asshole managers really suck! You've been in a lot of countries like Japan for example. Have you ever been in Holland?
Zac : I love Holland, it's my favourite European country (it's the best-GS) , I've been there so many times I've lost the count!(smoking skunk heh?-GS) Everyone is so helpful and respectful. Actually I produced an album for a dutch band called Disinfest last year , unfortunately their label went bust and they are trying to get it released at the moment , good luck to the guys!

GS : As you come down here so often you must smoke marihuana don't you? Right here it's as a national symbol as the wooden shoes.
Zac : Marihuana lets you search the mind , we compose with it. But we only smoke it on days with a Y in them!( I smell buisness here-GS)

GS : What inspiration you use to compose new songs?
Zac : Inspiration should be honest , it should be what you feel and what you know. My inspiration is the power to be what I want to be.

GS : What do you do in daily life when not making music?
Zac : I mentioned earlier I produce and engineer a lot in the studio , I have recently worked with The Electric Hellfire Club new album (US), Charlie Porn EP (US), Venom/Abbadon live/demos

GS : Very interesting Zac! Are you a Christian?
Zac : NO I am not a Christian , I don't believe in God. My main philosophy to enlightenment is meta-physics(?-GS) /Zen

GS : You guys are in the metalscene for quite a long time now. What's the worst thing that you've ever experienced in this scene???
Zac : To work with people who you thought were your friends , spend time and money to develope them , help them to start to break , then they fuck you off without the guts to tell you straight to your face. When someone even doesn't believe in the scene , waves promises in front of them. The final insult is that they've rerecorded certain parts over the original tapes and than claimed that they had rerecorded the whole album. Bollocks!Rest assured Ben , Paul R and Paul A are on the album too! All without the credits.

GS : Forget your former bands!Rainmaker is better anyway. How would you name your music?
Zac : Our music is heavy with a big "H". It is tuneful , it is classic metal for the millenium!

GS : Anything to say to the Dutch fans of Rainmaker?
Zac : we look forward to play in Holland as soon as humanly possible , maybe there's a promoter out there who wants to hear the future of British Metal. If so get in touch. thanx Holland!

Thanx for the contributions on my questions Zac! Let me know when coming to Holland , we build a large joint full of weeds than. Everybody who has not explored Rainmaker yet must do so , this band surely has the talent to conquer the world with their marvellous Art!

Best regards from Gwydion Sagelinge.
